Walking for Diabetes

Walking for diabetes

Walking for diabetes is a healthy experience for diabetic patients. It helps to reduce risks related to heart disease, blood sugar levels and control of blood glucose levels.

Walking can be done as an exercise or as a way to relax one’s mind.

Before you begin your program, you will need to take some extra care and considerations as a diabetic.

In order to get started on the right foot you will need to involve a number of people in your plan.

These include:

  • Primary Health Care Provider (PHP).
  • Foot doctor.
  • Walking shoe store.
  • Friends.
  • Walking club members .

Primary health care provider:

The first stage is to seek the advice of your PHP. He needs to agree with your new arrangements regarding exercising.

He will have to make a decision whether your current health condition is prepared to take on the new walking program.

Please always follow any recommendations he suggests for the good of your health.

Foot doctor:

Ensure that you contact a foot doctor and consider any input he may have in your new plan.

Check your feet carefully for any injuries.

In case of any foot wounds get immediate treatment for them before you start your exercise.

Walking shoes:

Shoes are of significant importance during the walking exercise.

Find a set of walking shoes that fit your feet well. You also need to be very comfortable in them.

Choose shoes which have a broad flat sole in order to ensure the correct balance.

Get yourself some cotton socks. These are a good choice because they capture the moisture and keep it away from your feet adequately.

Seek the opinion of a staff member at a shoe shop. They could be able to direct you to a specialist within the store who can guide you in realizing your walking for diabetes pursuits.

To stay motivated, find a friend or friends that you can walk with especially on days that tempt you not to keep up to the program.

Walking club members:

Joining a social group with this kind of arrangement would be a good idea. As you keep up to this discipline, you will soon find the walking for diabetes exercise as having far reaching benefits towards your health.
